Windmillfs 24/7 lightning monitoring system


[1] This system consists of 3 parts:
1: lightning sensor which identifies the blade lightning damaged.
2: lightning signal transformer which transforms the signal from the lightning sensor to the lightning Current measurement unit
3: lightning Current measurement unit which gives quantitative measurement. It comes with the communication unit.

[2] Lightning signal is as follows: Lightning sensor sends the damaged blade signal. Lightning Current measurement unit synchronizes the blade signal and unitfs measuring data and unit gives the quantitative lightning data (lightning date, time, max current, electric charge amount). Fig. 2 shows the system configuration.

[3] Lightning sensor is lighter, lower maintenance fee and less expensive to install on blade.

[4] Lightning signal transformer transforms the signal from the lightning sensor to the lightning Current measurement unit and is set inside nacelle. It communicates with lightning sensor with optical fiber or wireless communications. And with lightning Current measurement unit, it communicates via optical fiber to avoid Surge Current from the lightning Current.

[5] Lightning Current measurement unit which is installed on the base of the tower measures Current amount quantitatively.

[6] Remote monitoring (for windmill controller) connects with public line (e.g. Mobile network) or Office LAN and monitors blades with the controllerfs management. As it manage all the data at once, it can be utilized as analysis database
